Home Boy!

Updated: Jan 17, 2021

A quick update

Sooner than we initially anticipated, Noah has been allowed to return home and has been back at home since late yesterday afternoon!

What this means, practically, is that we (and by we, I mean mostly Kim) are now Noah's primary health care providers. He is still getting most of his nutrition and calorie intake from the feeding tube and he needs injections until his blood counts get better. He is also pretty weak right now. He still is unable to walk on his own and sitting up takes a lot out of him. There is a bit of a nagging cough, possibly related to the feeding tube, and so he requires a lot of extra TLC.

What this means in lived experience is that Noah has, once again, made our family complete. Our house feels full again. The girls are working extra hard to oblige Noah's requests and are always willing to do the work needed to make him smile because they are just so glad to be around him. Noah is re-engaging with family life and happily joins our us for meals, book reading, play and "remote learning" time. He is more physically active at home than at the hospital and we're working on helping him to regain lost muscle. There is also the opportunity to get out doors in the stroller and to get fresh air, something that is in short supply in the hospital.

Looking forward, Noah will still have to check into the cancer clinic twice a week and he will be back at McMaster for his next round of chemotherapy in around two weeks time.

But, right now, Noah is home. Praise God.
